Getafe star Borja Mayoral looks set for an extended spell on the sidelines, ahead of going under the knife to repair a knee injury.
That’s according to the reliable Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, who has this afternoon revealed the latest on the situation of frontman Mayoral.
The 26-year-old, for his part, was forced into a premature departure from Getafe’s La Liga meeting with Las Palmas over the weekend.
Spotted clutching his left knee as he made his way from the pitch, Mayoral, in turn, was put through a series of medical checks over the course of the last 72 hours.
And, unfortunately for club and player alike, as much have since given rise to confirmation of a serious injury.
As per the aforementioned Mario Cortegana, the frontman – who has racked up an impressive 15 La Liga goals to this point in the campaign – has damaged the meniscus in his left knee.
Mayoral, as a result, looks set to undergo surgery later this week, to repair the problem.
News of the extent of the Getafe man’s problem will also come as a source of concern for Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente, who is understood to have earmarked Mayoral as a potential inclusion in his La Roja squad for this summer’s European Championships.
