Getafe president Ángel Torres has confirmed that a key member of the club’s midfield ranks has come to the decision to move on with a view to next season.

The player in question? Nemanja Maksimović.

Serbian international Maksimović, for his part, has acted as a near ever-present in the engine room ranks of Getafe boss José Bordalás across the term to date.

In fact, the 29-year-old has featured from the off in all but one of the Azulones’ La Liga outings.

As much comes with Maksimović having continued to prove himself a consistent source of excellence, on his way to four goals, and several Man of the Match accolades, too.

Safe to say, then, that it will come as a blow to all associated with Getafe to hear that, beginning in the summer, the capital outfit will be forced to make do without the contributions of their Serbian standout.

Speaking to the media this weekend, Azulones president Ángel Torres was asked for the latest on Maksimović’s future.

And, in quotes gathered by Mundo Deportivo, Torres went on to confirm that the midfielder has come to the definitive decision to seek out a transfer, to continuing his playing days closer to his native Serbia:

“Maksi wants to return to his country or near his country. He is comfortable in Spain, but he has been here for many years and wants to return. Thank you for everything. For performance and treatment. We must be grateful for everything he has given us. We are going to miss him.”
