Germany have confirmed that star striker Lea Schuller has tested positive for Covid-19 and will now be monitored ahead of a potential return to the camp later in their Euro 2022 campaign.
Die Nationalelf got off to the perfect start in the group stage, thrashing Denmark - who knocked them out at Euro 2017 - 4-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium on Friday.
Schuller scored the second goal that evening after beating Lene Christensen to a cross from a corner, but is now likely to miss the rest of the group stage after testing positive for Covid-19.
"Lea Schuller has tested positive for the coronavirus. She only feels mild symptoms and was immediately isolated. Depending on the course [of her recovery], a return will be made according to the [medical] specifications and [we are] in close consultation with UEFA," the German national team said in a statement.
Germany return to action on Tuesday evening against fellow heavyweights Spain back at Brentford, and can secure qualification to the knockout stages with another win. They will then round off the group stage against Finland in Milton Keynes on Saturday.
