Germany U19

While they contributed half of the goals for the heaviest score in the U19 Euros history, Tuesday’s game was eventually all about England’s unbelievable comeback. Will Antwi’s side scored four goals in the space of 11 second-half minutes to come from 5-1 behind.

The result was also critical for both sides. Germany are now sitting bottom of the group with only a point to show from the first two games. In particular, Hanno Balitsch’s side conceded six second-half goals in these matches against the Netherlands and England.

Germany last progressed from their group in the U19 Euros when Davie Selke and Hany Mukhtar guided them to victory in 2014. They were knocked out of the group stages in the next three tournaments before failing to qualify for the last five editions.

The biggest dilemma for Balistch would be whether to go ahead with a similar XI or make numerous changes following the debacle at the Arcul de Triumf Stadium. After all, they did score five goals in just 48 minutes against a toughest opponent. And, the only substitution he made in the middle of England’s rousing display was taking off the captain, Noah Darvich.

Nonetheless, we can expect a slight shift in the defensive unit. That’s a difficult task, however, considering the likely absence of DFB Pokal winner Finn Jeltsch and his replacement Elias Decker due to injuries.

Norway U19

The permutation is similar for Norway U19. If they beat Germany and the group winners Netherlands avoid defeat to England, they will qualify for the knockout stages for only the second time in their history.

England, who drew both of their games so far, could decide their fate by themselves just by winning their game. Norway could even qualify with a draw if the Netherlands beat England by more than two goals.

Like Germany, Norway also conceded the majority of goals after the break. England netted a late equalizer in the opening round to tie the game 2-2, and the Netherlands’ both goals came after the 65th minute in a 2-0 defeat for Even Sel’s team..In a few months, Germany and Norway will face again at the U19 level as they are seeded in the same group for the first stage of the 2026 Euros qualifiers.

Team News

There are two German-based players in the Norway squad. Hamburg’s Jonathan Norbye is a mainstay in their defense, while RB Leipzig’s Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit scored their first goal of the tournament against England. Both players have already made their first-team debuts in their respective clubs.
