Germany battled back to a 2-1 victory over the Azzurri in the Italian fashion capital of Milan tonight.

There was no shortage of drama in this first-leg tie as Italy surged into an early lead courtesy of a Sandro Tonali strike.

Julian Nagelsmann's team responded after the break with Tim Kleindienst and Leon Goretzka finding the net to secure the win.

Below you'll find the Bulinews.com player ratings for the Germany players on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best.

Germany player ratings against Italy:

Oliver Baumann - 7/10

Couldn't do much for the Tonali goal. Superb first-half save to deny Kean and keep it at 1-0. Another brave left-footed block to repel Raspadori and prevent a Kleindienst own-goal after the break.

Joshua Kimmich - 8/10

An assured, captain's performance throughout. Delightful crosses from deep and a corner for both goals. Pressed the Italian left flank well.

Jonathan Tah - 6/10

Unfortunate to see his last-gasp clearance fall to Tonali for the goal. A couple of good clearances after that. Could have defended better for Raspadori's wasted chance.

Antonio Rüdiger - 6/10

Composed and reliable in defence. A quiet first-half where he rendered Raspadori anonymous. Tempers flared from time to time.

David Raum - 2/10

Badly caught out of position by Politano which led to the Tonali goal. Ok going forward but vulnerable defensively. Wisely taken off after 45 minutes.

Pascal Groß - 5/10

A couple of sloppy passes and didn't really find a foothold in midfield up against more athletically gifted opponents.

Leon Goretzka - 9/10

Germany's best player after conceding the early goal. Took the attack to the Azzurri and constantly broke up play in midfield. A beautiful, glancing front-post header put Die Mannschaft in front.

Leroy Sané - 6/10

Battled to win back the ball on a few occasions and made himself busy in attack. His pace caused trouble at times. Made way for Karim Adeyemi in the 82nd-minute.

Jamal Musiala - 6/10

Superb trickery and dribbling to create space despite receiving a lot of close attention from Italian midfielders. Looked tired late on, but kept winning crucial duels as the final whistle neared.

Nadiem Amiri - 5/10

A fairly quiet first-half aside from a couple of passes and a free-kick which he failed to curl on target in time. Made way for Jamie Lewelling shortly after the hour mark.

Jonathan Burkardt - 4/10

Did well to get involved early on with selfless runs despite limited service. Almost found a leveller at the near post. Unlucky to be hooked at the break.

Substitutions:

Tim Kleindienst - 6/10

Instant impact with beautifully taken header to level things up at 1-1. A physical presence up top. Lucky that Baumann prevented a potential own-goal.

Nico Schlotterbeck - 4/10

Took up an unorthodox left-back role. Solid defence but offensive output struggled.

Jamie Leweling - 4/10

Didn't feature too much after his introduction. Won a couple of vital possessions in attack.

Karim Adeyemi - N/A

A short cameo but some poorly placed passes in those limited minutes.

Robert Andrich - N/A

Didn't feature long enough to be rated.

Head coach:

Julian Nagelsmann - 7/10

The 37-year-old did well to address the problems from the first-half and make to bold substitutions at the break. Kleindienst's introduction proved to be a masterstroke.
