Wales lost out to Germany 5-1 in the UEFA Women’s Nations League Group A3 but had pegged back their hosts before half time.

Wales fell behind to one of many German corners but when temporarily down to ten due to injury, Lea Schuller allowed an unchallenged header to break the deadlock on 25 minutes.

It might have been 2-0 in the last few minutes of the half but goalkeeper Olivia Clark got a boot to Laura Freigang’s goalbound shot.

Moments later, some great one-touch play from Gemma Grainger’s side saw Sophie Ingle’s cross touched on by Angharad James for Ceri Holland to fire past Ann-Katrin Berger for the equaliser.

Schuller restored the lead in the first minute of the second half, another header with substitute Linda Dallmann providing the cross.

Clark saved well from Klara Buhl shortly after, Hayley Ladd later cleared off the line and the resulting corner was turned onto the far post.

Germany secured the points from the spot with ten minutes left, Ingle penalised and Giulia Gwinn converting via the crossbar.

Sjoeke Nusken’s deflected effort made it 4-1 and Nicole Anyomi came off the bench to immediately get a fifth.

Wales next travel to play Denmark on Tuesday 31 October, with the match live on BBC Two Wales, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport Website at 5pm UK time.
