Germany have been knocked out of the 2022 World Cup in the group stage. Hansi Flick’s team did manage to win their final game against Costa Rica (4-2), but it wasn’t enough to progress as Japan also won their match against Spain (2-1). Seven Bayern players started for the four-time world champions in Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane, Thomas Müller and Jamal Musiala. Gnabry scored the first goal, with substitutes Niclas Füllkrug and Kai Havertz (two) getting the rest.

Mazraoui and Morocco into last 16

In contrast, Thursday was a good day for Noussair Mazraoui, who did secure progress from Group F after a 2-1 win with Morocco against Canada and Alphonso Davies. The Atlas Lions will face Spain in the round of 16, while Davies bows out after three defeats.

Stanisic and Croatia progress

Josip Stanisic is also still in the tournament after Croatia booked their place in the last 16 as group winners with a goalless draw against Belgium. They will now take on Japan.
