Day 12 at the World Cup saw two of the major nations knocked out and an unlikely group topper pull off a shock comeback.
We look back on the best of what happened and what lies ahead on day 13.
The drama which unfolded throughout the second half of the games in Group E.
Spain and Germany were winning and looked to be en route for the knockouts. Suddenly, both were behind and heading out.
Germany pulled it back, hit the post repeatedly but ultimately were eliminated as a result of some controversy elsewhere.
This is how thin the margins were for Japanâs winner â the goal that sent them top of the table and Germany home.
As for Belgium, they were also sent packing but it could have been so different had Romelu Lukaku took one of his many chances, that being the worst of them.
Coach Roberto MartĂnez announced afterwards that he will not be back as Red Devils boss.
You can try to take Japan down with your incessant passing. But you will not succeed.
No team had more expected goals in the group stage than Hansi Flickâs side. They did score six but it wasnât enough to prevent elimination.
After Breel Embolo and Wahbi Khazri both scored against the country of their birth in this World Cup, Yassine Bounou made some history by conceding against the nation where was born, with Moroccoâs Montreal-born goalkeeper doing so against Canada.
And he only played 45 minutes but Lukaku leaves the World Cup with a very unwanted record from his short cameo appearance.
Poor Kai Havertz. That award likely wonât be one taking pride of place in his trophy cabinet.
The final day of group stage action! After this, it is all about knockout football.
Brazil are already through and Switzerland are favoured to join them but Serbia and Cameroon both also harbour hopes of progression.
Portugal are also into the last 16 and Ghana, South Korea and Uruguay are also all in contention to advance alongside Fernando Santosâ side.
After his actions in the 2010 World Cup which saw his country advance at the Black Starsâ expense, revenge will be on their minds 12 years on.
Surprisingly, SuĂĄrez was put up for pre-game media duties by his country and was unrepentant again â insisting that he was not to blame but that Asamoah Gyan and Ghana were for failing to score from the penalty following his handball.
This could get feisty.
