Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur receive potential Jerome Boateng boost

According to BILD journalist and German football expert, Christian Falk (h/t football.london), Bayern Munich defender, Jerome Boateng knows about the transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

And Falk claims that the centre-back is ‘honoured’ by the interest. Spurs have been linked with a move for Boateng, with the defender’s contract expiring this summer.

The 32-year-old is set to leave Munich at the end of the current season after 10 years at the German club since he left Manchester City in 2011.

“TRUE @JeromeBoateng is honoured for the interest of @SpursOfficial and can imagine a transfer to the Premier League. But so far there have been no talks or negotiations.”

A vital signing

However, as Falk notes in his tweet above, there are no talks or negotiations yet over a move. Jose Mourinho would surely want to strengthen his defence in the summer.

Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier have been the trusted pairing this season, with Davinson Sanchez also seeing considerable game time. Apart from them, the club has two young defenders in Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon.

But what they lack is a serial winner at the club, like Boateng. The German has won the Bundesliga and domestic cup competitions several times and was in the Bayern squad that won the UEFA Champions League in 2013 and 2020.

The talk of him being honoured by the interest from Spurs comes as a big boost. And if Tottenham want to win domestic and European silverware in the next few years, an experienced leader like Boateng can do wonders in that regard.

Sadly, the future of football as we know it now hangs in the balance with the newly-announced European Super League. And it remains to be seen how it turns out by the end of the season.
