Manchester United are reportedly playing ‘poker’ over their pursuit of Jadon Sancho, though a deal for the Borussia Dortmund winger remains ‘likely’.

United are pursuing a deal for Sancho after a transfer failed to materialise despite talks last summer, with Dortmund prepared to allow the England international to depart in the current transfer window to fund their own recruitment – if their valuation of around £77m is met.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have seen an initial offer of around £67m rejected by the Bundesliga side, with SportBild (via SportWitness) reporting that the Red Devils are playing ‘poker’ after not making attempts to ‘close the gap’ in valuation since the first round of negotiations.

Sancho is understood to have agreed a five-year contract with the Premier League side and a deal is believed to remain ‘likely’ despite the current stalemate over the transfer fee for the 21-year-old.

Dortmund are keen for a higher guaranteed fee, whilst United are attempting to structure a deal involving several performance-related add-ons.

There is also a disagreement over the payment structure with Dortmund unhappy with the Red Devils’ proposal of the fee being paid in instalments over a five-year period, while the Germans would prefer it over a shorter timeframe.

Sancho has been with Dortmund since signing from Manchester City in 2017 and has developed into one of world football’s brightest young talents at the Westfalenstadion, with the winger having scored 16 goals and provided a further 14 assists in all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign.

Sancho is currently with the England squad at Euro 2020, though was left out of the matchday squad for the Three Lions’ opening group game win over Croatia on Sunday.
