German journalist Andreas Boni believes that Inter and Borussia Dortmund will agree a deal for defender Manuel Akanji at a fee of around €15 million.

Speaking to Swiss newspaper Blick in an interview published in today’s print edition, Boni reported that the Nerazzurri have offered €10 million for the 26-year-old whilst Dortmund are holding out for €15 million, and that a fee is likely to be agreed somewhere between those two sums.

Inter have identified Akanji as a major target to complete their defensive options for the season, and the Schwarzgelben could certainly be receptive to selling him given that he is out of contract next summer and does not want to extend his deal.

At the moment, the Nerazzurri’s bid is still some way from being large enough to be accepted by Dortmund, but Boni believes that as the transfer window gets closer and closer to its conclusion, the two clubs will find an agreement.

“In my opinion, in the end, the deal will be done because the player wants play at the World Cup, and Dortmund want to cash in,” Boni predicted, “the two clubs will feel each other out and it’s likely that they will find an agreement.”

“Of course Inter also has Acerbi as an alternative, and other clubs could always come forward for Akanji,” he noted. “But I think the player will leave because the situation at Borussia Dortmund is at a point of no return.”
