German midfielder Max Meyer has completed a move to Crystal Palace.

Meyer was a free agent this summer after failing to agree a new contract with Bundesliga club Schalke, where he played a key role last season.

He has signed a three-year deal at Selhurst Park worth a reported €190,000-a-week, making him the club’s highest paid player.

The 22-year-old impressed in a deep midfield role as Schalke secured Champions League qualification but refused to agree a new deal with the club, sparking rumours he would join one of Europe’s heavy-hitters. Meyer was linked with the likes of Arsenal, AC Milan and TSG Hoffenheim.

However, he’s landed south of the Thames.

“I feel really good and I’m happy to be here. I can’t wait to start training with the team and I hope I’ll have a good season,” Meyer said.

“I’m proud to be here and I hope I can make the next step in my career. I want to give my best and I think we can have a good season – maybe better than the last.

“I played at Selhurst Park last season for Schalke and the atmosphere was perfect, and I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere for a Premier League game.”
