The Athletic’s Deal Sheet has just come out, and it has some interesting Chelsea snippets.
Their Bundesliga reporter Sebastian Stafford-Bloor has revealed that Borussia Dortmund are keen to extend Carney Chukwuemeka’s loan to cover the upcoming Club World Cup which begins in a fortnight.

His current deal would see him come back to England on the 30th of June, which is midway through the US based tournament. Given it’s an ideal shop window for the midfielder, who Chelsea are looking to sell permanently, we can’t see why they would say no.
The bad news, however is that the German giants’ interest in extending Chukwuemeka’s loan for another year has “cooled” and there is now “almost no likelihood that he will be at the Westfalenstadion next year.”
That’s disappointing, given he had some good cameos since his January love move, and given not long ago the word was they wanted another year of him on loan at least. Perhaps it’s a lack of reliability that’s put them off, or just the price tag Chelsea have put on him.
Chukwuemeka is one of many players who have been loaned out this season who will return for another summer of being shopped around. Hopefully his future is sorted soon, and he doesn’t have to spend another preseason in the “bomb squad” of outcasts.
He and the likes of Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling will be desperately trying to figure out their futures with no real plans to keep them at Chelsea it seems. It’s going to be yet another incredibly busy summer for those pulling the strings upstairs as they prepare this squad for the Champions League.
