German giants in race to sign Celtic defender?

It may be the worst kept secret in Glasgow that Kristoffer Ajer is going to be on the move this summer; the only hard part of coming to terms with his sale is guessing where he is going to end up.

Clubs across the continent have been linked with the big Norwegian, who despite Celtic’s turbulence on their European travels and domestic games, has shown a class above the rest – which is most likely a major factor into why so many clubs are linked with him.

Newcastle and Norwich are the two main clubs interested, although given their smaller pedigree, it seems a waste for someone with the quality of ‘Big Ajer’ to move there. Yesterday, Bayer Leverkusen were linked with Celtic’s star defender, and Sky Sports even confirmed the BayArena outfit had initiated talks; however, news has transpired that an even bigger club are looking to lure him to Germany – RB Leipzig.

Leipzig, who Celtic famously beat 2-1 at Celtic Park in the 18/19 season, finished 2nd in the Bundesliga last season; yet, after being victims of their own success with -defenders Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate have undergone big-money transfers to Bayern Munich and Liverpool respectively – there is a gaping hole at the back of the Leipzig defence, something which they now want Ajer to fill.

With Champions League football guaranteed after a 2nd place finish for Die Roten Bullen last season, it is nailed on that Ajer would be extremely keen to make the move to Eastern Germany. A fee of £10million has been banded about for the Norwegian, and with only a year left on his contract, alongside a more than generous list of suitors, it appears that Leipzig and Ajer might just be the perfect match.
