El Clasico is always special, especially when Barcelona beat their eternal rivals in the finale of an event.

The only thing better than a Barcelona Clasico win is La Manita or a demolition of the opposition by scoring five goals – something that unfolded last night in Saudi Arabia in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.

Over the years, Gerard Pique became the face of the famous La Manita celebration – holding his hand high in the sky during his playing days and signalling to the world that Barcelona had put five goals past Los Blancos.

Still got it

Gerard Pique made the most of his opportunity yesterday to celebrate Barcelona’s historic win over Real Madrid and did not forget his ‘hand’ celebration.

The Barcelona legend was with former Real Madrid superstar Iker Casillas, following the game from Turin.

After the final whistle, Pigue pointed the hand and signalled Real Madrid’s destruction directly to Casillas which the legendary goalkeeper accepted with sportsmanship and joined in on the fun.

The video of the incident was posted on the Kings League’s official social media handle with the caption ‘Good night everyone’, rubbing salt into Real Madrid’s wounds.

Interestingly, however, Pique was not the pioneer behind the famous hand celebration. It was Johan Cruyff’s assistant Tony Bruins Slot in 1993-94 who first invented the gesture that has now become a tradition.

Pique got the opportunity to showcase the gesture on the field first in 2010 when Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona famously beat Real Madrid 5-0 and repeated it in 2018 when the Catalans rampaged past their rivals with a 5-1 scoreline.

He may not have been on the field last night, but the Cule in him is still alive and he thus made the most of his opportunity.
