As one of a host of unwanted players returning from their loan deals this past season, Georginio Wijnaldum is unlikely to be staying at Paris Saint-Germain for long this summer – with several offers already on the table for the Dutch international, who has one year left on his contract.

The veteran will have only made 14 league appearances this season for the Europa League finalists, having missed the first half of the season with a tibia fracture and then seeing his campaign cut short by a hamstring issue.

According to Foot Mercato, the former Liverpool man could return to his home country, with both PSV Eindhoven and Ajax interested – although he has publicly indicated that going back to The Netherlands, which he left in 2015 for Newcastle, would not be his first choice. The midfielder believes he can still play at a top club, and is not entertaining proposals which have come in from the two Dutch sides and teams of a similar stature.

Saudi Arabia has also emerged as a potential destination – with the 32-year-old one of many big names the Gulf state is targeting as part of its lucrative offensive on European football. However, Wijnaldum is reportedly asking for well above his €10m salary in France – he is leaving the situation to his agent, but one other opportunity would be to see out his deal with PSG.  With Luís Campos looking to streamline the Ligue 1 winners’ squad, Wijnaldum will nevertheless be encouraged to leave.
