Georgia Stanway becomes first female FIFA Next Ambassador | OneFootball

In a landmark moment for EA Sports and women's football, the City and England forward stands proudly alongside United States star Mallory Pugh, as the first female representatives in a shortlist of players regarded as the brightest emerging talents across the globe.

Phil Foden has also been named as one of eight male Ambassadors, also including Mason Mount, Steven Bergwijn, Theo Hernandez, Rodrygo, Sergino Dest and Gio Reyna, Bruno Guimaraes and Hwang Hee-Chan.

Aged just 21, Stanway has tasted success for Club and country, lifting the FA Women's Super League title, three Continental Cups and two FA Cups, scoring in the 2019 Final at Wembley.

Having captained England to bronze medal glory at Under-17 and Under-20 level, clinching the Silver Boot with six goals in the 2018 U20 Women's World Cup, she also played a role in England's 2019 senior SheBelieves Cup triumph.

In addition, Stanway is no stranger to individual recognition. The forward has also earned personal acclaim with a BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year nomination in 2016, before she was named the PFA Women's Young Player of the Year in 2019.

Deeply passionate about inspiring the next generation, she hosted a #SameGoals coaching clinic in her hometown of Barrow-in-Furness in February for aspiring female footballers.

Reflecting on her latest achievement, she declared she could not be more proud to be shining the spotlight on the women's game.

"Joining EA Sports as an Ambassador is an honour," she said. "I'm so proud to be involved.

"It's something I didn't know was previously possible but it's exactly what's needed to boost the women's game.

"It shows that big organisations want to boost women's football and the next generation, which will hopefully open up a bigger talent pool for the women's game.

"It's an exciting prospect. It feels like part of a wave and it's great to be part of.

"Phil Foden is involved too, which is great, and we'll both be doing our bit to support the next generation of people coming through.

"People need role models on and off the pitch. Without role models, people wouldn't be where they are today. I know I wouldn't.

"Seeing someone at the top of their game makes you want to be like them and you can see the pathway with their journey.

"It's good to see their experience and also what they're like away from football - off the pitch as well.

"That's what I did growing up and being able to mirror my journey to theirs put me in the best possible position to be where I am now.

"If we can get people interested at a young age and encourage them to stick with it, it can only benefit the game.

"I'm grateful to be where I am and I know none of it would be possible without the past and present players, my family and my social network.

"I know the work is not yet done. I'm still young and I've got a lot of time left in my game.

"I'm really looking forward to what the future holds for on a personal level and for women's football."
