Ipswich Town are on a high right now, currently sitting in second place and having won four of their last five League One fixtures.

They’ve also lost only one of their opening 13 league games and have a squad under Kieran McKenna that certainly looks capable of challenging for a promotion spot in the division.

One player who has continued to shine for the Tractor Boys this year is George Edmundson, who has played in ten games so far this season and bagged one of two strikes for his team at the weekend to boot. He’s become a solid player for the side since joining them in 2021 and has become a regular member of the first-team.

Quiz: Did Ipswich Town win, draw or lose the last time they played at these 18 stadiums?

Bramall Lane?

Win Draw Lose

Edmundson though has been full of praise for another one of his teammates this weekend in Richard Keogh. Whilst the 36-year-old has only managed two league outings so far this campaign, he played against Morecambe at the weekend and looked at home in the Ipswich backline. Now, Edmundson has told the East Anglian Daily Times that the centre-back has been ‘brilliant’ for himself and the club and that his experience has been great to have.

Keogh only joined Ipswich in the summer from Blackpool, having been with the Seasiders for just one campaign. Kieran McKenna decided that adding the experience of the former Derby man could help his team out plenty and it already seems to be paying dividends, even when the 36-year-old is only shouting on from the sidelines.

Speaking about the player, Edmundson said: “He’s been brilliant. I feel like Cam, me and Woolfy are still young centre-halves. When you get to 28,29, 30, I feel like that’s when you’re really at your peak as a centre half.

“So for us it’s been great having Richard – he’s been giving us those little key moment experiences that he’s dealt with. We’ll be playing and he’ll be shouting on the sidelines from the bench and we can hear him – just little key pointers to keep you on your toes. He trains unbelievably too, so he keeps our standards high.”

George Edmundson is really beginning to thrive for Ipswich – if he wasn’t already – and his starting role as part of their successful backline so far has proven this.

He’s now one of the first names on the teamsheet and week-by-week, he is proving that he deserves to be in the Tractor Boys’ squad. It’s Richard Keogh coming in for the praise though and you can understand why. The defender has been in the EFL for years and years now and knows exactly what it takes to win.

He has plenty of knowledge to pass on to other players and it could lead to him becoming a coach one day – you certainly wouldn’t be surprised. For now though, he is proving that he still has a lot left in the tank, with the result against Morecambe at the weekend showing he can still cut it in League One.

His influence then extends to both on and off-the-field and Ipswich are undoubtedly a better side having his presence in it.
