Jayden Bogle returned from the bench in Sheffield United‘s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City on Saturday and will be aiming to put some pressure on George Baldock at right wing back.

The latter has been a very reliable player for the Blades in recent years and has been a consistent performer in their very impressive start to the season.

Celtic were one club interested in taking Baldock away from Bramall Lane in the summer transfer window, but the 29-year-old was only thinking about his future being with the Blades when he spoke to the Sheffield Star.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here.

“Everyone knows how much I love being here.

“I remember saying a while back that the best decision I have ever made in my career was joining United, becoming a Sheffield United player, and that still stands true now.

“My driving force is to try and relive those moments and those experiences we had (in 2019) after going up.

“Being in the city, sharing that with the fans, living the achievement as one, it was brilliant, and I want that all over again.”

The Blades finishing ninth in their first season following promotion from the Championship was something of an outlier in the last decade or so, but there is a strong core of survivors from that side who would be confident in their ability to upset the odds again.

Win Draw Lose

It was very unlikely that Baldock, given how the season has begun for the club and him personally, would come out and say that he was open to leaving the club in the next transfer window.

However, if Bogle has cemented his place ahead of the 29-year-old at right wing back and Celtic are still in European competition come January, at this stage of his career a move could be hard to turn down.

Baldock probably is desperate to play in the Premier League again as a priority, but he is not the sort of player that will be content being a backup.
