Despite struggling at the start of the season for Olympique de Marseille, Geoffrey Kondogbia (32) has completed an unlikely turnaround under Roberto De Zerbi, and is set to be part of the Italian’s plans heading into the 2025-2026 campaign. According to a report from La Provence, the prospect of an early contract renewal for the Central African Republic international has been floated. Kondogbia had initially been viewed as surplus to requirements following OM’s underwhelming 2023-2024 season. A summer departure was even on the cards, with Marseille reportedly considering a salary adjustment to ease his exit. However, a frank summer exchange with De Zerbi shortly after the former Brighton boss arrived changed the trajectory of his Marseille future. The Italian has even publicly called for a contract extension for the the midfielder this season.“Kondogbia has made an effort despite hardly ever playing in his position. It would be great if the club could extend his contract,” said Roberto De Zerbi at a press conference attended by Get French Football News back in May.Kondogbia is currently tied to the club until June 2027, and has this season transitioned into a deeper role – often deputising as a central defender in a season which saw injuries and suspensions limit De Zerbi’s backline options.
