After joining as an emergency signing from Valencia on 3 November, Geoffrey Kondogbia was able to make his Atlético Madrid debut off the bench during their 4-0 thrashing of Cádiz on Saturday afternoon.
With the match firmly in hand, Kondogbia enjoyed his 18-minute cameo though he was carded in the 85th minute after a challenge on Salvi Sánchez.
After moving up to third place in the LaLiga table, the 27-year-old was delighted and hopes he can live up to his expectation as a suitable replacement for Thomas Partey.
“It was an incredible night. We took the lead early and things went well for us after that. I also had my debut, so I think it’s positive for the team and myself,” he told the Atlético Madrid media team.
“I’ll try to work hard and help the team. Now it’s time to get to know my teammates and understand what they and the coach want from me. I’ll slowly adapt to the team.
“They’ve welcomed me really well. I already knew Yannick [Carrasco], and Thomas [Lemar] a little bit, who played for AS Monaco.
“I’ve found a fantastic group of players and I think that will help me to adapt quickly.”
Atlético Madrid will be back in action after the international break when they host Barcelona on 21 November.
