Many Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club are interested in re-signing Jermain Defoe this month.

The veteran striker is currently a free agent after leaving Glasgow Rangers and is said to be open to a return to the North East as he looks to make his next career move.

There is also interest from clubs in the Sky Bet Championship, however Sunderland is a club that holds a special place in the former England frontman’s heart and it is for that reason that he could well be tempted by a return to the Stadium of Light.

Naturally it didn’t take long for the news to filter through to the Sunderland faithful, with many taking to social media to air their views on the potential addition of Defoe.
