Since signing for Gent in the summer of 2023, Omri Gandelman has been somewhat of a revelation. the 24-year-old’s signing brought about a feud between then head coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck and the scouting department, with the latter having not been in favour of the deal. However, fast forward a year, and Vanhaezebrouck is certainly having the last laugh. The midfielder scored an impressive 13 goals in 45 matches for the side last year and already has eight in 12 this time around. He also has six assists across the one and a bit seasons.
This is far more than he managed at former side Maccabi Netanya. Between 2019 and 2023 he played 124 games for the side and scored 12 goals. For Gent, he has 21 goals in 57 games. This form has seen him earn a call up to the Israeli senior side, having won caps at youth level.
During the sides most recent nations league clash with France, the midfielder scored his first international goal. After 24 minutes, Gandelman levelled the scores after Eduardo Camavinga had given the French an early lead. Unfortunately for Gandelman, his goal proved just to be a consolation. France went on to win the match 4-1.
Should Gandelman keep up this level of performance for Gent, he will certainly be the subject of a number of clubs next summer.
