According to HLN and others, Gent have agreed a deal with Sint-Truiden for the signing of 20-year-old Matte Smets. The young Canaries talent has been one of their stars this season, starting all 21 games. Operating as part of the sides back three, Smets has emerged as a key component of the style of play Thorsten Fink wants his side to play. Sint-Truiden have been one of the most impressive footballing sides this season, willing to play from back to front and press.

Smets will now talk to Gent to agree a contract. While Sint-Truiden were hoping to keep hold of him until the summer, it is understood that Gent have made an offer that meets a valuation within the players contract. Gent themselves have been bolstered by two large sales to Lyon, with Gift Orban and Malick Fofana swapping Belgium for France.
