Genoa currently sit 12th in the Serie A table, almost isolated from their surroundings. Alberto Gilardino has done an excellent job by keeping his side away from the relegation scrap on their return to the top flight. While they couldn’t quite break into the battle for European spots, their safe mid-table position can be considered an important feat on its own.
The Ligurians are undefeated in their last four outings, collecting a win and three draws. They managed to share the spoils with Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi last weekend, with Albert Gudmundsson getting his name on the scoresheet yet again. The Icelandic star has been one of the biggest revelations of the Serie A campaign, so the Laziali defenses must be at their sharpest form to repel his danger.
Lazio have now collected two wins in three Serie A fixtures under the guidance of Igor Tudor. However, the team needs more than a commanding win over Salernitana to truly heal from the Derby della Capitale defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals Roma. Therefore, a victory at the Marassi is very much needed on Friday.
The Biancocelesti are currently 7th in the Serie A table having collected 49 points from 32 fixtures. While they remain in the mix for the European spots, their chances of securing Champions League football remain feeble, even with Italy’s widely expected additional UCL spot. Nevertheless, three points on the road could galvanize their chances, especially if the likes of Roma, Bologna and Atalanta drop some points.
