Genoa are keen to pursue a loan move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta (25), according to a report from L’Équipe. The Franco-Congolese forward wants to leave the South London side. Mateta is repotedly frustrated with his limited playing time with the Eagles, so much so that he wishes to move on during this summer’s transfer window.
The former Lyon forward has played 29 Premier League games with Palace, but he only started in six of those. This season, the Châteauroux youth product has only scored four times, including two for the reserve Premier League 2 team. Mateta is tied to Palace until 2026 after sealing a permanent €11m move from Mainz in 2021.
According to L’Équipe, Genoa, who have been promoted to Serie A following their second-place finish in Serie B, have entered into talks with Crystal Palace over Mateta’s future. I Rossoblù would like to agree a deal with Palace and Mateta over a loan with an option to buy whilst the Eagles would favour a definitive transfer. The South London side reportedly values Mateta at €10m, but are said to be open to negociations with Genoa.
