Gennaro Gattuso has signed a three-year contract extension to remain as coach of AC Milan until 2021.

The deal was announced with a press conference held at Casa Milan on Thursday afternoon, which was streamed live on the club’s official Facebook page.

“Rino Gattuso will be our coach for the next three years,” said Rossoneri CEO Marco Fassone.

“It is one of the most heartfelt choices we have made since we were here and he has done an extraordinary job in these months.

“Rino can carry on an important project in the long run. Rino is absolutely wanted by everyone.”

Gattuso moved up from his position as youth team coach to take charge of first-team affairs following Vincenzo Montella’s dismissal in November and the 40-year-old has won an impressive 14 of his 25 matches in charge so far.

The former midfielder has agreed to fresh terms that will reportedly see his wages increased from the €120,000 salary he has had since making the step up from the Primavera team.

It is also claimed he will have a say in the club’s transfer plans for next season as part of the agreement.

“I am really proud to train a club like this and I hope to bring these colours up again as soon as possible,” Gattuso told reporters.

“I thank the board for the confidence shown to me and the players for putting it all down. Forza Milan!”
