Gennaro Gattuso sacked by Marseille | OneFootball

Marseille have announced that the club have parted ways with coach Gennaro Gattuso.

The 46-year-old took over in September after a spell in Spain with Valencia but has departed after less than four months in charge.

Since mid-December, they have won just one of their last nine games and fell to another disappointing defeat last weekend against Brest.

Speaking after that defeat, the Italian pulled no punches about how bad the situation was.

"When you hit rock bottom, which we have, you have to take responsibility and I take responsibility," he told reporters. "There's nothing else to say. We can't think about Europe anymore. Now we have to look behind us."

Marseille are back in action on Thursday night in their Europa League play-off round tie against Shakhtar Donetsk following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
