Fiorentina have confirmed the departure of head coach Gennaro Gattuso after just three weeks in charge.
Gattuso was appointed on May 25 after leaving Napoli, but both parties have ‘mutually agreed’ to part ways amid reported disagreements over transfer strategies.
According to Sky Italy, the Fiorentina board were also unimpressed with Jorge Mendes (Gattuso’s agent) and his growing influence behind the scenes.
“ACF Fiorentina and Mister Rino Gattuso, by mutual agreement, have decided not to follow up on the preventive agreements and therefore not to start the next sporting season together,” read an official statement.
“The Club immediately set to work to identify a technical choice that would guide the Viola team towards the results that Fiorentina and the City of Florence deserve.”
Reports in Italy have claimed that Claudio Ranieri is being lined up to replace Gattuso, who left Sampdoria following their ninth place finish last season.
