Jose Mourinho full of praise for Tanguy Ndombele as Tottenham beat Sheffield United

According to the Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho has hailed midfielder Tanguy Ndombele for his performance after Tottenham Hotspur beat Sheffield United 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

First-half goals from Serge Aurier and Harry Kane had put us in the driver’s seat. A goal from David McGoldrick in the second period put the Blades right back into the game.

But, Ndombele restored our two-goal cushion with one of the most sensational goals of the season, as he lobbed the ball into the net from a difficult angle when he was moving away from the goal and going down. That proved to be a vital moment as it killed off any hopes of a comeback from the home team, handing us a much-needed win.

And, speaking after the game, Mourinho hailed Ndombele’s performance, calling his goal ‘genius’ in the process.

“A very basic mistake gave them the goal with the only chance they had, but then we had a genius action to bring us again to a two-goal advantage. “The goal is amazing, but I don’t care about the goal, I care about the performance and the performance was magnificent and I’m really pleased that he’s come to this level. He’s playing very, very well.”

What a turnaround for Ndombele

Roll back to six-seven months back and it looked like Ndombele could very well be on his way out of the club after having seemingly fallen out of favour at the club. Fast forward to the present and the Frenchman has become an indispensable member of the starting XI.

“‘It’s a great example that with me the door is always open. The door of the team is always open, and when a player is not playing he has to try to understand why and he has to try to understand how can he walk through that door. He understood, he understood.”

Ndombele always had the potential to make it big. And after a difficult year at the club, it is great to see the midfielder hitting the right notes. Long may it continue.
