Leeds United are aiming for an elusive victory as they take on Arsenal in the Round of 16 of the Carabao Cup this midweek. The Whites have endured a difficult start to their Premier League campaign, having secured just one win in nine matches this season. However, this midweek cup action will give them the opportunity to set aside a bit of pressure and get back to winning ways.

Defence

Marcelo Bielsa generally tends to make wholesale changes in his cup games. But the Carabao Cup has become a bit more important for Leeds United this season, and with that in mind, the Argentine might want to preserve the core of his defensive unit.

Luke Ayling is unfortunately injured, which means Jamie Shackleton could continue at right-back. Junior Firpo, too, is struggling from a muscle injury, which should force Stuart Dallas to continue at left-back.

At centre-back, Bielsa could be compelled to make at least one change. Diego Llorente, in particular, might be given a breather in order to make way for Charlie Cresswell. The youngster should form the heart of the Leeds United backline, alongside captain Liam Cooper.

There should be no changes in goal as Illan Meslier continues to fare in between the sticks.

Midfield

Kalvin Phillips remains a doubt for Leeds United heading into this game. Regardless of his fitness, the midfielder is unlikely to be risked, thus paving the way for Pascal Struijk to continue at holding midfield.

Adam Forshaw is in contention for a start in midfield. But given the quality of the opposition, Bielsa might persist with Mateusz Klich and the more attack-minded Tyler Roberts in the number ten role.

Attack

In the attack, Raphinha had taken a slight knock against Wolves. He is likely to sit out, with Daniel James emerging as a favourite to start on the flanks while Crysencio Summerville is in contention for a start, ahead of Jack Harrison.

One further change in attack could see Rodrigo Moreno making way for Joe Gelhardt. The youngster’s dynamism led to the penalty that allowed Leeds United to equalise late in the game against Wolves. He will be given a well-deserved opportunity to prove himself, as the Whites continue without the services of their leading frontman Patrick Bamford.
