AC Milan and Inter recently decided against moving forward with the plans to renovate San Siro, and this morning, the reasoning for the decision has been revealed.

Talk has been rife in the past few months about San Siro, with it seemingly like a concrete answer about the future is finally on the horizon. However, whilst talks about the stadium were ongoing, as were conversations about new homes, conversations that were preferred.

As the clubs neared the deadline for a decision, it seemed that the idea of renovating the stadium was growing for both clubs, given the heavily reduced cost of renovation compared to a new home. Regardless of the cost, though, the clubs decided against a move.

The reasoning for the decision is believed to be due to the convenience of the project, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. As the paper suggests, the financials partnered with a loss of revenue – a lowered capacity because of the works – make the plans difficult to fully get on board with.

With a lower capacity, the cost of renovation rises because of the lower revenue, making the project an inconvenience more than anything. However, the two clubs combining to work on another project is not out of the picture, and it could be a possibility as reported this morning.
