AC Milan will hire a new sporting director ahead of next season and there is a number one candidate that has emerged: Igli Tare.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are ‘ready to rebuild the team’, but not the one that takes to the field. Instead, a change to the managerial hierarchy is expected soon, with the addition of a new director.
The position is vacant today: there is no prominent figure, who has authority with the team, who participates in the daily sporting life of the group, able to interact with the coach and players. A man of coordination with the other areas of the club, who knows how to work as part of a team.
The CEO Giorgio Furlani confirmed the next step in his interview before the defeat to Lazio: “We have to improve our sporting results a lot. For this reason, if there are figures that we can bring to the club who will help us achieve our goals, we will consider them. At this moment, no decision has been made on this profile.”
What he says is true, because there are two profiles in the running: Fabio Paratici and Igli Tare. The former was sporting director for the nine Scudetti won in a row by Juventus, while the latter helped Lazio to three Coppa Italia wins and three Supercoppa Italiana titles too.
Andrea Berta must be deleted from the list because the former Atletico Madrid manager will continue his career at Arsenal. All three have had meetings in London with Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so now the club will make its assessments.
Paratici oversaw 19 trophies in a decade at Juve, plus two Champions League finals. He is a figure with European recognition. Tare spent 15 years as director of Lazio and is ready to return after two years of inactivity. He is currently in pole.
