Several AC Milan players were not up to scratch last night as the team fell to a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie against Roma.

Milan have given themselves it all to do in the return fixture as Gianluca Mancini’s first half header was enough to claim victory for the away side, though Olivier Giroud missed a sitter late on and a penalty wasn’t given that looked like it should have been.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has their ratings from the game, starting with Milan’s overall performance which was awarded a 5.5 out of 10, while Stefano Pioli’s management and decisions got a 5.

The best player in a red and black shirt was Samuel Chukwueze who got a 6.5 having come off the bench and created the chance for Giroud, while Rafael Leao was kept almost totally out of the game and he got a 4.5.

The other positive notes were Tijjani Reijnders and another substitute in Yacine Adli, who got a 6.5 like Chukwueze. Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria and Matteo Gabbia got the only other passing grades (6).

Malick Thiaw and Ismael Bennacer seemed to struggle with the pace of the game and thus were given a 5.5, but Theo Hernandez, Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were very ineffective and scored a 5. Giroud, meanwhile, got a 4.5.
