AC Milan played well for large parts of their defeat against Napoli but ultimately lost due to individual errors, something that is reflected in this morning’s ratings.
The fear is that the Scudetto train has already left Milan behind as they were beaten 2-0 by Napoli at San Siro on Tuesday night. Both of the goals came in the first half for the away team as Romelu Lukaku got the opener early on before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the advantage just before the break.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has their ratings from the game, starting with the team’s overall performance which got a 5.5 out of 10. There is also a striking contrast in the scores of the two head coaches, as Paulo Fonseca was given a 5.5 while Antonio Conte scored 7.5.
The best player on the pitch for Milan was adjudged to be Alvaro Morata, who was given a 6.5 due to his work rate and coming closest with a disallowed goal. Mike Maignan had an uncharacteristically poor night and a hand in both goals, so he got the lowest score of 5.
Samuel Chukwueze (6.5) was the only other player to really impress on the night, with Yunus Musah plus the two substitutes Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao each getting a passing grade of 6.
There is a sea of 5.5s: Malick Thiaw, Strahinja Pavlovic, Filippo Terracciano, Youssouf Fofana, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Noah Okafor all struggled. Finally, Emerson Royal was given a 5.
