AC Milan got their first win away from San Siro this season last night as they beat Monza 1-0, but they were made to work very hard for the three points.

The only goal of the game came just before the break through Tijjani Reijnders. A cross was hung up nicely for Alvaro Morata but his header was blocked, then the Dutchman was on hand to provide a diving headed finish of his own from close range.

It was far from a vintage performance and this is highlighted in La Gazzetta dello Sport’s ratings this morning, starting with the team’s overall performance and Paulo Fonseca’s which were both given a 6 out of 10.

The best player on the field for Milan was Reijnders who of course got the winning goal and earned a 7, while Noah Okafor was adjudged to have struggled the most as he got a 5.

The other players to impress were Mike Maignan (7) who made some crucial saves in the first half, Youssouf Fofana (6.5) who did an important coverage job in midfield, and Christian Pulisic (6.5) who was the most dynamic of the forwards.

There are several scores of 6: Filippo Terracciano, Malick Thiaw, Strahinja Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez, Samuel Chukwueze and Alvaro Morata all got a passing grade.

Finally, Rafael Leao (5.5) came off the bench and struggled to really get into the game barring one long run where the end product was again lacking.
