AC Milan could hand another title to Inter on the restart of club football, and despite this, the club must focus on its own ambitions.
In a season where progress was hoped for, Milan have fallen drastically short of the expectations. Barring the odd anomaly, the season has been filled with disappointments and underwhelming results, which have led the Rossoneri to the mercy of another reset.
However, that reset can still be lessened, but it is reliant on the Diavolo’s ability to fight back, which they have gained a knack for under Sergio Conceicao.
As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write, Milan are very much the controllers of their own fate while also being able to dictate other things at the top of the division.
With the international break coming to an end, eyes are focused on the weekend’s game against Napoli. Winning would effectively gift the title to Inter, for the second season running, and should would make the Red and Black ‘springs of Milan’ get much colder.
Despite the stakes in the Napoli game, the Rossoneri cannot really afford to drop any points, regardless of what it may mean for their neighbours. Instead, the focus has to be on relaunching the campaign in the final chances to do so.
Whilst doing the Nerazzurri a favour, Conceicao’s side must focus on bringing themselves back into European contention, which is a necessity for the club, as detailed by the report.
Five teams and six points separate the Diavolo from the hallowed Champions League spots, and Fiorentina, Atalanta, Roma and Bologna all lie in Milan’s path. Therefore, European hopes are not dead, they just need to be sparked into life.
Conceicao is aware that his fate is already decided, but his hope still remains to bring this squad to life. A selfless act. Perhaps, the first instance of this and an inspiration for better within this team.
