An all-Italian battle between AC Milan and Napoli could soon take shape when the January transfer window opens as both clubs are targeting Juan Miranda of Real Betis.

Milan have been heavily linked with a move for Miranda over the past few months, but La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) suggests that the race is still open and that Napoli want him as well.

The Real Betis left-back came through the youth academy at Barcelona and has nailed down a starting spot with the Andalusians after a loan spell to Schalke. He is an attractive profile to the Rossoneri and Neapolitans because of his technique, his work rate and his potential.

His contract with Betis will expire on 30 June 2024 and, therefore, he could leave them in January in exchange for a small financial compensation, or in the summer on a free transfer of course. Miranda also boasts good international experience, given that he went through the entire process in the Spanish youth national teams.

There is a slight difference in the plan for each suitor, though. Milan would like to make him Theo Hernández’s deputy while Napoli are looking to replace Mathías Olivera who has suffered a long-term injury, so Miranda could get a starting spot.

A couple of recent reports had suggested that the 23-year-old’s move to Milan is basically a certainty and that the only doubt remained whether he would arrive in January or June, but if La Gazzetta are to be believed nothing is set in stone.
