AC Milan are still looking for a new sporting director ahead of next season, not entirely convinced by either of the candidates at the moment. As such, according to a report, they could abandon the pursuit altogether.
In the last few months, several names have been linked with the job, from Igli Tare to Tony D’Amico and Giovanni Sartori. However, none of these leads are convincing to CEO Giorgio Furlani so far, Tare seemingly for his merits and D’Amico because of the contract tying him to Atalanta.
As highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see photo below), Milan could abandon the pursuit and continue with the current structure. How? The responsibilities and tasks of each round would be properly defined to avoid confusion, and the hierarchy would be reiterated.
In that scenario, Furlani would keep his spot at the very top, while the mercato would be entrusted to Geoffrey Moncada (he has the Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders deals in his favour). Zlatan Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, would continue as a ‘super consultant’ for the ownership.
For now, all decisions have been postponed until the end of the season, with Milan wanting no distraction ahead of the Coppa Italia final. Not everything has been stopped, though, as renewal talks are ongoing non-stop as per the newspaper.
The reliable journalist Matteo Moretto has previously rejected the idea of no new sporting director, so it remains to be seen if he will reiterate that now.
