The Court of Arbitration for Sport have established that Lille are responsible for paying compensation to Sporting CP after Rafael Leao’s exit from the Portuguese club, and it could open up some mercato scenarios.

La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms the news coming from Portugal stating that the French club have become responsible for the compensation which is already at around €20m when factoring in interest.

Leao freed himself from his contract at Sporting, moving on a free transfer to Lille following an attack on the training ground from ultras of the Portuguese club, with the courts sentencing him to personally pay the Lisbon side €16.5m. The Lisbon Court of Appeal rejected the player’s first appeal, and it left his contract renewal with Milan in suspense.

However, the news has come at a great time both for the player and for Milan because both are freed of any wrongdoing. The report adds to pay attention to the market scenarios because Milan have several deals on the table with Lille such as Sven Botman and Renato Sanches, and faced with such an outlay they may have an absolute need to raise cash.
