GdS: Ibrahimovic prepares phone call as Milan eye signing of Gyökeres – the price tag | OneFootball

Viktor Gyökeres has ended up on AC Milan’s wish list for the No.9 role and while the competition is expected to be fierce, the Rossoneri have a strategy. Per a report, this could be the time for Zlatan Ibrahimovic to shine.

The Sporting Lisbon striker has been stunning this season, bagging 36 goals and 14 assists, and it’s not exactly surprising that many big clubs are monitoring his progress. Milan are one of them, as reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below).

Gyökeres has a €100m release clause in his contract, as Sporting more or less always includes high clauses when signing a player, but that’s not the true price tag. At least €50m will be needed, though, which is still rather hefty.

Sporting know that a lot will depend on the preference of the player, seeing as they are bound to make a pretty big profit anyway. Milan have not yet labelled the operation impossible, especially since a lot of their other targets also have high starting price tags (Joshua Zirkzee, Benjamin Sesko and so on).

The Rossoneri are well aware that a huge chunk of the budget will need to be invested in a No.9, but the competition of Arsenal and Chelsea could make it very difficult. Milan, however, have something that these clubs don’t: Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Gyökeres has always considered the 42-year-old an idol and they also played together in the Swedish national team. Ibrahimovic is following the 25-year-old’s season with great interest and a phone call could perhaps make all the difference.
