Although Milan have an almost complete squad, they are expected to make some signings in January. Above all, the centre-back position is a priority as the Rossoneri have few capable starters in that position.

As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Stefano Pioli has received important answers from Matteo Gabbia at the start of this season. The youngster has grown and improved a lot, resulting in very good performances.

The 21-year-old’s journey to the first team certainly wasn’t immediate but followed a path of stages: first the years as a protagonist with the Primavera, then the loan to Lucchese in Serie C and finally the return to the Rossoneri.

After his debut in Serie A against Torino in February, Gabbia found more and more space amid the rotations. He managed to provide neat and precise performances alongside both Alessio Romagnoli and Simon Kjaer, able to play on both sides.

Despite a few expected mistakes, Gabbia has grown just as much as the rest of the team and earned the trust of the coaching staff. As Milan continue to perform and fight for their goals, the centre-back will continue his growth.

In the match against Lille, alongside Kjaer, Gabbia put in a performance of personality that certifies that Milan, with the defender, have found a reliable starter as well as a necessary reserve.
