AC Milan are up against Cagliari this evening and Francesco Camarda, the youngster, will play from the first minute. Along with Rafael Leao, he will look to lead the Rossoneri to an important victory.

The win against Real Madrid has certainly given Milan a much-needed confidence boost after a couple of questionable performances. As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) the future is today in Cagliari, as Camarda and Leao will look to restore the Scudetto ambitions.

Camarda has already made his debut in Serie A as well as in the Champions League, but today he will make his first start for the Rossoneri at 16 years and 244 days. He will thus beat the record of Gigio Donnarumma, becoming the youngest starter in the three-points-per-win era.

A fantastic opportunity

Fonseca announced during his press conference yesterday that Camarda will play from start tonight, knowing just how much quality the youngster has. Instead of Tammy Abraham, who is back in the squad, the manager made it clear that Camarda is more suitable for the task.

Granted that Abraham’s condition isn’t 100% yet, as the manager also stated, the decision was based on above all technical-tactical motivations. Indeed, by starting Camarda, Fonseca has confirmed his reputation as a coach who loves to launch young players.

Naturally, this will also make the club very happy as they have big plans for the striker, though without pushing him too much. In July, Zlatan Ibrahimovic explained: “We believe a lot in Camarda. We have to make him grow and protect him”.

In short, it’s a fantastic opportunity for Camarda to show his qualities from the first minute and, above all, when Milan will be chasing goals. Facing the experienced and strong centre-backs, Sebastiano Luperto and Jose Palomino, will surely be a challenge for him.

Leao looks for the goal

In addition to Camarda, eyes will also be on Leao after the impressive display against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu. Helping out more in defence, though above all shining in possession, he showed exactly why Milan rewarded him with a new contract and the No.10 shirt.

Fonseca is hoping that Leao can continue on this path and make a difference for the Rossoneri, as this is a deciding factor in the Scudetto hopes. “In Cagliari, he will play from the first minute and, even if he played an excellent game at the Bernabeu, he can do even better,” Fonseca stated in his presser.

The manager highlighted that Leao had several ‘situations’ in which he could have made better decisions, so the question is if the winger’s decision-making will be better now with a boosted confidence. With just one goal so far this season, that will be one of the main quests for the night.
