Daniel Maldini scored a goal that helped Spezia beat Inter on Friday night and he did so in front of his father Paolo Maldini.
As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), the road is arduous for children when they decide to follow the same path as their fathers and that applies to Daniel Maldini who has one of the most decorated players in football history as his dad, and an icon of the game was his grandfather.
Cesare and Paolo Maldini were simply the history of Milan, champions with trophies and records in their belts. Their story is known, but Daniel’s is still to be written even if what happened on Friday was something out of a movie script.
Daniel Maldini and Spezia downed Inter at the Stadio Alberto Picco which helps Milan in the Champions League race, and now the 21-year-old – who did not follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by being a defender – is dreaming of carving out a career with the Rossoneri.
At Spezia he hasn’t had much playing time so far – 13 appearances and 383 minutes in total – but he scored three goals, one in the Coppa Italia at Como and those two extraordinary ones against Milan and Inter.
The goal at San Siro against his parent club didn’t help Spezia to win but it made fans dream, and it was even enough to get smile from Paolo in the stands. His goal on Friday got an even more convincing smile from his father Paolo who is increasingly proud of him.
