Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori are AC Milan’s controversial figures of this international break – after Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez took this role in the first – but there is a difference in their situations, and it could work in their favour.
Before the last set of international fixtures, there was the cooling break incident, and this time, the penalty problem. There are differences in the situations, of course, but the core problem is a lack of respect for teammates and the coach, and this is why the English pair are facing serious consequences.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has taken a look at the situation and offered a possibly different conclusion.
Tammy and Tomori have been together since their youth days, and it looks like their story will continue together, at least in their next outing – a trip to the bench seems likely. After all, their decision to take the penalty cost Milan dearly.
This decision heavily annoyed Paulo Fonseca, and the players are very much aware of this. As Gazzetta states, the Portuguese believes technical mistakes are OK, whereas behavioural ones are not. Therefore, a welcome to the bench could arrive for the duo.
The penalties have not been the only poor thing about the former Chelsea pair, though. Instead, there were poor performances in the game from both, but it is arguable that this run of bad displays runs beyond the game in Florence.
For this reason, their ‘betrayal’ offers Fonseca a chance to rotate, if nothing else – Strahinja Pavlovic and Noah Okafor would possibly be given the nod.
With neither of the players called up for international duty, Abraham and Tomori are both granted a chance of redemption, which Gazzetta calls an opportunity to ‘work hard and show their repentance’, and their lack of international football could ‘work in their favour’.
It is believed the chance of them staying in the team is up to them, and whilst they have respect for Fonseca’s indication, there is time for redemption, which they must take.
