Gian Piero Gasperini admits the 2-0 victory over Bologna is ‘worth double’ for Atalanta, feels this was Mateo Retegui’s best game and has an injury update for Sead Kolasinac.
La Dea were in crisis after three consecutive defeats, all without finding the net, and remarkably had not won a single home match in 2025.
It was therefore a huge boost when Mateo Retegui opened the scoring in only the third minute, then fought with Juan Miranda to whip in a cross for Mario Pasalic to double their lead.
The 2-0 victory allows Atalanta to consolidate third place, with Bologna pushed down to fifth behind Juventus in the race for a Champions League spot.
“When you win games of this calibre, it feels like it is worth double for the table,” Gasperini told DAZN.
“We are satisfied, after games where we didn’t get the results we deserved, we know that this is football too. When you score that early, it puts you in a position to control the match.
“I honestly struggle to give too negative a view of our last few performances, despite the results, but today we were more solid and converted our chances.”
Bologna tried to bring more physicality to their midfield with Tommaso Pobega and Remo Freuler, but Atalanta still seemed to out-muscle them.
“This has always been one of Atalanta’s main characteristics. By taking the lead early, we were able to stay solid and then had good chances on the counter-attack, where we could’ve had more precision,” noted Gasperini.

Retegui did not seem to appreciate being substituted, though the coach is understanding of his strikers.
“He has played practically every match, except when he was injured, so naturally forwards get substituted more because it’s important to have fresh legs in those roles.
“I thought it was Retegui’s best performance of this year, for his quality and intensity, he was a constant reference point for the rest of the team.”

There was some bad news too, because just before half-time, Sead Kolasinac was stretchered off with a left knee injury.
“We have to see, he had this sprain to his knee and we need to evaluate it. He is a Highlander, if the medics say it will take two weeks to heal, he will be back in one,” laughed Gasperini.
“It doesn’t seem to be particularly serious, but we have to evaluate next week.”
