The Championship club have confirmed the 19-year-old’s arrival this afternoon, with Rowett quick to talk up Cresswell after his first training session with his new teammates.

“He’s got so much potential as a player,” Rowett told the club’s official media channels.

“We’ve seen that playing for Leeds and England’s Under 21s as well. He’s very highly regarded.

“Charlie is a ball-playing centre-half – he can go and do all the aggressive things you need him to do, but can also step out with quality and composure.

“Charlie is coming from a good family. I played with his Dad (Richard) for two years, so I know he has good work ethic. He will provide brilliant competition for those defensive positions and will be very determined to get in the team and stay in the team.

“His signing is a really exciting one for us and is a quality addition to a squad which is shaping up quite nicely.”

Where did Charlie Hewitt‘s playing career begin?

Middlesbrough Sunderland

Cresswell is an England youth international and has made seven senior appearances for Leeds, as well as excelling and captaining the U23s in recent seasons.

Last year, five of Cresswell’s Steven appearances came in the Premier League, including an impressive full debut against West Ham in September’s 2-1 defeat.

He knows that he’s got good ability to be an all-round centre-back in the Championship, whether that’s playing out and breaking lines with his passing or matching a striker’s physical presence.

It’s the type of two-fold ability you need in the Championship and it’s clear to see that Rowett thinks it’ll benefit Millwall.
