Gary Rowett has revealed that Millwall are set to take a different approach in the attempts to bolster their frontline this month, during an interview with News at Den.

Matt Smith has departed The Den for Salford City this week, whilst Jon Dadi Bodvarsson could also be heading for pastures new, with Bolton Wanderers holding an interest in the frontman.

Jed Wallace’s future at the London club is also uncertain, suggesting that attacking reinforcements could be prioritised in what remains of the January transfer window.

Addressing his frontline this January in an interview with News at Den, Rowett said: “We wouldn’t let those players out if we weren’t going to bolster the attack.

Yes No

“Sometimes as a manager you have to accept and look at players that have had limited impact on the team in terms of goals.

“I know that’s sometimes down to opportunity but what I mean is that you therefore have to go and let them play. We’ve spoken about it in previous windows about letting people go and play games.

“We want to go down a slightly different route and I’m confident we’ll be able to do that. Our aim is to recruit younger, mobile, up-and-coming strikers that will give us an opportunity to do that.

“We’ll aim to do that as best we can. Within that we might have to look at a short-term option or two to get through to the end of the season if we can’t sign who we want.

“That’s the target. The club, the owner and myself have all spoken about how we’d like to go with that sort of plan.

“We need a little bit of freshness around and newness to the group and that’s what we intend to do.”

It seems like this month will be full of change, in regard to the options Rowett will have available to him.

It also appears that there is a slight change in Rowett’s approach to take on the rest of the Championship campaign.

Whilst it seems that this could be a period of experimentation, Millwall are still well within a fight for the play-offs, meaning that they will still look to be extremely competitive in the face of change.

This change of emphasis seems that it is not just desired by Rowett, instead, it is something that is wanted by the whole club.
