Millwall boss Gary Rowett has refused to speculate on the future of wantaway Jed Wallace.

Wallace is out of contract at the end of the season and has been offered a new deal with the club.

However, he has yet to sign and there is speculation linking the winger with a move to Nottingham Forest.

Rowett refused to comment on the saga when asked about it this week, stating the club’s position on the matter is very clear.

“I can’t speculate on any of those things,” Rowett said, via NewsAtDen.

“I’ve been quite clear on our stance, we don’t want to lose Jed but from a business aspect I understand for the club it’s not ideal if he goes for nothing in the summer.

“But if he helps us get in the top six the last four months of the season then that’s what happens.

“Nothing’s changed, really, on that in the last week. We haven’t had an offer that’s anywhere near the club’s valuation and that’s always the first step to any deal. Every player has a value.

“But nothing’s changed as far as I’m concerned.”

The two clubs are at an impasse in discussions, with no agreement being made between Millwall and Forest.

Wallace has appeared 21 times in the Championship this season for Rowett’s side. In that time he has bagged five goals and six assists, including scoring one penalty.

Millwall are currently 11th in the table, with 33 points from 24 games. The London club remain seven points adrift of the play-off places, although they do have two games in hand on Huddersfield Town in sixth.

MIllwall’s next game is actually against Nottingham Forest in a crucial clash in the race to make the play-off places. Forest are ahead of Millwall in the table, sitting in ninth place, but there is only one point between the sides going into this weekend’s fixture at The Den.

Forest will be looking to continue their momentum following a major victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup last weekend. Meanwhile, Millwall were dumped out of the competition by local rivals Crystal Palace.

The Verdict

Millwall clearly don’t want to just give Wallace away for next to nothing, and still see value in potentially keeping the player through to the end of his contract.

If they believe Wallace can’t be replaced this month then it is probably worth taking the financial hit of losing him on a free at the end of his contract.

By selling to Forest they would also be strengthening a direct rival, which could be just as costly anyway.
