Millwall manager Gary Rowett has admitted that the club will be aiming to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

With the transfer window set to open next month, the Lions will be keen to assemble a squad which is capable of reaching new heights in the Championship later this year.

Millwall finished the previous campaign six points adrift of the play-off places.

Set to wave goodbye to Oliver Burke and Benik Afobe when their current loan deals expire at the end of May, the Lions will need to draft in replacements for these two players.

Burke provided three direct goal contributions 13 occasions in all competitions.

18 goals for the Lions last season and is currently attracting interest from Besiktas.

Making reference to his transfer plans, Rowett has revealed that he will be looking to add to his attacking options in the coming months.

Asked by London News Online about what area of the pitch he will be looking to address this summer, Rowett said: “The forward areas are obvious, we’re losing goals, quality and numbers.

“That is probably our main focus, recruitment-wise.

“Which is why it is such a big summer.

Did Millwall sign George Saville for a fee or on a free transfer last year?

Fee Free transfer

“Forwards, and forward quality, is not easy to find at the top end of the Championship – because the reality is that is where we are.

“That is going to be a challenge, that is going to be tough to do.”

The Verdict

It is hardly a surprise that Rowett wants to add some fresh faces who are capable of providing an attacking threat this summer.

Although Millwall will be able to call upon the services of Tom Bradshaw next season, they will need to draft in some more classy operators if they are to challenge for a place in the play-offs.

Bradshaw scored nine goals in the Championship during the previous term and could potentially take his game to new heights if Millwall can sign another striker who is capable of complementing his style of play.
